Memory loss after coma

It is not uncommon for these memories to return over the ensuing days to weeks. Medically induced comas are designed to shut off parts of the brain to preserve at least a semi-optimal. The coma itself does not appear to cause memory loss.

Memory recovery after traumatic coma. In my brother’s case, after recovering from his coma , his recollections of his past were more vivid and clear than they were before. Some patients in a coma were placed in a medically -induced one while others may have had a disease state that caused the coma.

Some patients may have sustained brain injury and the type an location of the injured brain can impact the amount of memory loss. Amnesia is a term used to describe full or partial memory loss. From all of the studies I have rea it is perfectly normal.

Dementia is a slow decline in memory , problem-solving ability, learning ability, and judgment that may occur over several weeks to several months. While such sudden, profound loss of memory is rare. Aspirin poisoning is a medical emergency and can cause nausea,. After my SCA last March and I was taken out of my medically induced coma and had short term memory loss. From my readings, it appears that some short-term memory loss can happen if a person is severely hypoglycemic for a long period of time, but I frankly do not know of anyone with severe problems from this type of coma.

I suspect that in time, he will recover fully or very close to fully. Side effects of an induced coma can vary slightly and it all depends on the length of the induced coma and it also depends on the drugs being used. A short-term induced coma can have little to no side effects and a short-term induced coma is usually anything less than hours.
