What to say to your depressed girlfriend

I believe that the most important thing is to validate her feelings and make her believe that you are with her all the time and totally support the way she feels. You need to earn her trust to go any further.

My girlfriend suffers from anxiety and depression. But it can be tricky to know what to say — especially if you don’t understand what it’s really like to experience depression. Just don’t take her irritability too seriously.
