Emotional amnesia

Psychogenic amnesia or dissociative amnesia is a memory disorder characterized by sudden retrograde episodic memory loss, said to occur for a period of time ranging from hours to years. More recently, dissociative amnesia has been defined as a dissociative disorder characterized by retrospectively reported memory gaps. Emotional amnesia usually denotes a dissociative state and is often called dissociative amnesia. I would say, personally, that there are two very different types of emotional amnesia in borderlines.

A person with BPD can, under extreme circumstances or stress, totally dissociate. So many of us don’t realize how our intimacy in the present is being hindered by the emotional wounds of the past.

It helps to clarify why you react to some of your triggers. The worst part of my BPD is the insecurity within relationships. Dissociative amnesia is one of a group of conditions called dissociative disorders. When one or more of these functions is disrupte symptoms can result. Amnesia is a form of memory loss.

Some people with amnesia have difficulty forming new memories. Others can’t recall facts or past experiences. People with amnesia usually retain knowledge of their own identity, as well as motor skills.

When you have retrograde amnesia, you lose existing, previously made memories. Transient global amnesia. Neurological amnesia is characterized by a loss of declarative memory. Declarative memory refers to conscious knowledge of facts and events.

Research has shown that amnesia can be caused by head trauma and damage to the hippocampus, mammillary bodies and dorsal thalamus. DAE Okay, I’ve heard about people cutting out bits and pieces of their memories due to trauma, but does anybody else forget…like, even some of the good stuff? Strenuous physical activity. Medical procedures, such as angiography or endoscopy.

Emotional or psychological trauma can also lead to posttraumatic stress disorder, which can manifest itself in different ways including flashbacks of the event and intrusive, unwanted thoughts about the trauma. The memory can be either wholly or partially lost due to the extent of damage that was caused.
