Definition of being bipolar

What does mean to be bipolar? How to explain bipolar disorder to others? People who have bipolar disorder can have periods in which they feel overly happy and energized and other periods of feeling very sa hopeless, and sluggish.


In addition, many people may have bipolar disorder along with another mental disorder or condition, such as an anxiety disorder, substance use disorder, or an eating disorder. The elevated mood is significant and is known as mania, or hypomania if less severe and symptoms of psychosis are absent.


The problem is that for someone with bipolar disorder, hypomania can evolve into mania.

Today, I thought I’d take a minute to list out some of the characteristics that make this particular mental illness different from the rest. This illness is often compared to a roller coaster because of the highs and lows one may feel. Despite this, it is abundantly clear according to my mentioning of the Mayo Clinic, as well as other references I did not use, that it is unclear in the mental health and medical community as to the cause of bipolar disorder. It is difficult to diagnose because its signs and symptoms can be subtle or assumed to indicate other disorders.
