Depression is not a choice quote

Mental illness, much like many physical illnesses, is not a choice. No one would choose to have cancer, the same way no one would choose to have depression. Make no mistake: I know this quote was not meant to be malicious.

Anxiety Is Not A Choice (So Please Stop Telling Us To ‘Chill’) Many people think that individuals with anxiety or depression can wake up one day and decide to ‘get better’. That we can wake up one day and decide to ‘smile, chug coffee, and deal with it’. That being sai it isn’t their fault.

With the facts surrounding depression being so obscure, many people are prone to making wrong assumptions. Sure it can be a choice to be sa however having a chemical imbalance in your brain that completely changes you is not a choice. No one chooses to have a chemically imbalanced brain. It is a real mental disorder that does not discriminate.

Sometimes, it’s not your choice no matter how hard you work. Some days your illness will get the best of you. Yet, it’s the good days that count toward our future, and the bad days that help us learn and get better.

Eventually I was hospitalized in the.

It isn’t discriminatory against race, gender or ethnicity. It can affect anyone of any age and class, equally fatally. Most importantly, depression is not a choice.

Unlike being unhappy, depression is an intense feeling of deep sadness and despair that can last for days, weeks, or even months. The symptoms can include feelings of hopelessness, rejection, poor concentration, lack of energy, sleep problems, and sometimes suicidal thoughts. If it were, people wouldn’t select to be depressed. Nobody wants to be depresse and people don’t choose to feel suicidal.

Depression is not a choice. Like any other disease or chronic condition, it may require the care of medical professionals. Perhaps your response might be to say, Ohhhhh reeaaaaaallly?

As a side note: The ORLY owl is but one of many Internet icons to. The progression from a feeling of depression to being a depressed person was a foregone conclusion that I never questioned. Not because of psychotherapy. As the choice to cope with stress in a manner that is harmful to oneself demonstrates mental illness.

With that statistic so plain and clear to see, how is depression not being talked about more, not being shown the attention it needs. As we both know, depression is not an easy disease to control or deal with at times. Perhaps if the awareness of mental health that exists today had existed when I was a teen, someone might have reached out earlier.

For instance, when I began to self-isolate for long stretches of time — my solace was my bedroom where I would spend many hours alone, playing my favorite board game, Strat-O-Matic Baseball, with the family dog at my side. I thought about that quote. Insightful quote on depression : There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.
