How to be a good friend to someone with depression

What to Never Say to someone with depression? How to cheer up a depressed person? How do I help someone who is depressed? Sometimes, all they need to hear is a few encouraging words. Tell them you are there for them no matter what.


Emphasize you won’t leave them, because many people dealing with depression are afraid of people leaving.

Everyone comes with baggage. Find someone who loves you enough to help you unpack. I have suffered varying degrees and types of depression since I was thirteen years ol and over the years I have been on the receiving end of both good and bad support from friends.


Depression doesn’t care that you have work to do. It doesn’t care that there are dishes in the sink and the bins need to go out. It devours your time and strength and will to continue. You can’t do anything good with crumbs except make a delicious picnic for ants.
