Not taking showers sign of depression

Is not liking to bathe a sign of mental illness? Is not being able to sleep a sign of depression? What are the effects of not taking a shower? Can not masturbating cause depression?


Not wanting to leave the house. Some people with depression can be housebound for weeks or longer.

There are plenty of reasons for this, depending on who you ask. For some, it’s self-hatred. NEVER , EVER ignore signs of depression , particularly if you are isolating a lot, acting overly happy, and having frequent thoughts of suicide. There is a history of this behavior in my life, but those childhood days of not showering , washing more than my face and definitely not doing my hair was more born out of neglect rather than the depression that the five-year stint was born of.


When I stayed with my dad over the holidays, I wouldn’t wash. Those with this symptom often neglect basic self care by not showering , wearing deodorant or brushing their hair. A complete lack of interest in activities that have been previously pleasurable is a major sign of depression.


To most people, that seems disgusting… and it is disgusting.

But to me it’s the norm. Not brushing my teeth, not combing my hair, not showering is all completely normal behaviur in my book. Living with a mental illness is a challenge at the best of times, so let’s add personal hygiene into the equation.


Although symptoms of hostility, anger, and irritability are not central to the diagnosis of depression , research shows that these symptoms are highly prevalent in depressed people and associated with increased depressive severity, longer duration, a more chronic and long-term course of depression , and high co-morbidity with substance abuse and anxiety. My worst problem is showering and other basic hygiene tasks. I dont understand why I went from a shower in the morning and a bath in the evening , to not showering at all for like weeks! When the daily routine of showering , cleaning, brushing your teeth and combing your hair becomes too much.


You need to see a doctor. At this point you’re becoming classified as low – mid functioning. If depression is causing you to neglect self-care, create a plan for change. This can include: Start slowly. Identify one small, easy step you can take to begin caring for yourself better and build from there.


Break up daunting tasks into smaller activities. For example, instead of cleaning the entire kitchen,. Online Therapy with a Licensed Counselor. The Time is Now to Put Yourself First.

Now, however, it passes more quickly than it ever did. A day or so, a week at most. And then I get back on track, back in the shower. It’s quite common during depression though so I know it’s not just me. At least for me, there are.

When I realize Ive been episodic and have let my hygiene run rampant, I force myself to take a shower and I always end up feeling better than when I was all grimey. It is not something to be ashamed of and there is no need to suffer in silence. If you are experiencing symptoms of acute depression , see your doctor.


Depression can happen to anyone. If you or a loved one experiences suicidal thoughts, seek medical help immediately. Since you are prone to panic in the tiny shower space, take a sponge bath, similar to what you do with your feet, just all over.


I would say it;s probably the depression affects. A simple checkup with a doctor is a good idea, especially if low energy seems to be part of this change in behavior or they just don’t seem to be interested in much of anything anymore.
