If someone is sad what to say

Knowing what to say to someone who is depressed isn't always easy. While you may feel awkward and unsure at first, know that whatever you say doesn't have to be profound or poetic. What are the signs of sad?

It should simply be something that comes from a place of compassion and acceptance. If they are hiding their feelings, you can try to look out for not-so-normal behaviours like if they seem to look happier or rather fake in their emotions. Another thing is that they may look absorbed in their own world.

If you can tell something is wrong then there is no need to ask them if something is wrong with them. So instead point out to them that you can tell they are bummed and you are hear to talk if they so wish. They may not with to talk, so I. I wish you could see how amazing you are and i wish i could remind you on a daily basis so that you would never forget. For instance, if they had a parent die after a long and complicated illness, of course they are going to feel sad.

A lot of us end up sitting there uncomfortably, offering some awkward back pats, while saying , “There, there, it’s okay. This can be hard to believe when depressed , but can also be incredibly helpful in a crisis. Even science has backed up the importance of social support.

A reminder from a friend or loved one that, indee they’re not alone and they are loved can be invaluable. SUPPORTING SOMEONE WITH DEPRESSION. For a long time, no one really talked about depression at all. Now we’re working hard to change that — and we need to learn how to talk about depression in the right way. Even in the strongest person (because even the strongest person can get depressed), the stigma can leave a mark.

Be the one who pushes against it. Point out when you see a glimpse of their pre-depressed self. The very nature of depression renders it difficult to remember life without depression. The person they were without depression is still there. All too often, it’s the wrong thing.

People still have such a cloudy idea of what mental illness is,” Kathleen Brannon, of Herndon, Virginia. Nine times out ten, people struggling with depression just need to know that if they want to talk, they can. Beyond words, what really matters is your presence. Your presence goes a long way. If someone close to you is feeling sad it can be disheartening.

There’s nothing worse than seeing a friend or a loved one in pain and feeling down. An elephant will feel comfort from another fellow elephant! Just like an emotional mind feel comfort with another emotional mind.

So when someone is sad , you must approach them with your emotional min NOT your logical one. You comfort them by making them feel like everything will be okay. Not in a condescending way, and not using those exact words. Phrases like ‘Cheer up! It is what it is’ or ‘Toughen up’ can sometimes spill from our lips.

Expressions like ‘tough love’, ‘big girl panties’ and ‘sad sack’ might swirl in our heads. Personally I feel comforting someone would be a much better way than saying something, I believe one must interact to a person feeling lonely or depressed or even really sad some people don’t really like words of sympathy even though you are not triying to give words as such a lonely person is most likely to think as such. Here are some suggestions for talking with a depressed person.

It is not always easy to know what to say when a person you care about is clinically depressed. That means once you say those words, check in regularly with your friend or family member who is struggling. And offer to help them with tasks like finding a therapist, keeping appointments or any support they may need. For a depressed individual to learn that someone is there for them is huge,” he added.
