Lamictal memory loss

Over the years our kids have collected stuffed animals from around the world and at Christmas we put them all on a giant Christmas tree. They love it and it reminds us of close family memories. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, memory loss, sweating and constipation. You may just have more of dizziness and drowsiness when both these drugs are used together. Bipolar disorder itself can cause cognitive or memory problems.

The main fibers in the brain that are targeted by this medication is the corpus callosum.

Now does it effect memory ? If the medication interferes with the hippocampus or limbic system, then memory might be altered. Absolutely: Benzodiazepines like valium, xanax (alprazolam) and ativan can cause significant loss of memory , confusion and addiction. See your physician for assistance in stopping these medications. She was seizure free for months on it and then in August she had seizures, they increased her lamictal dose. Unfortunately doctors rarely consider this or will not take such reports seriously. There is limited information available on the discontinuation of lamictal.

Thus, doctors do not have any solid guidelines for weening a patient off of lamotrigine. My doc upped lamictal 1mg (taking 300mg now) a while back and since then I have short term memory loss. I took trazodone for a few days!

It can also cause loss of attention and inability to concentrate. Lamictal can cause serious cognitive and memory problems. These side effects however do not occur in everyone who is taking Lamictal. Please consult your physician about it as you may need dose adjustment or switch to another medication.

Loss of sensory memory and bipolar: Sensory memory is the retention of stimulus received through our senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Sensory perception is sometimes disturbed during bipolar disorder, for example the hallucinations experienced in bipolar psychosis. However, this is not the same as a loss of sensory memory.

In the bladder, anticholinergics prevent involuntary contractions of the muscles that control urine flow. In the brain, they inhibit activity in the memory and learning centers. The risk of memory loss is heightened when the drugs are taken for more than a short time or used with other anticholinergic drugs. While the anticonvulsants carbamazepine and valproate are predominantly antimanics, lamotrigine is most effective for preventing the recurrent depressive episodes of bipolar disorder. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to issue a black box warning advising consumers about this rare but potentially deadly reaction.

Memory loss , loss of appetite, insomnia at night, sleepy in day. Constant low grade headache: It did stop my suicidal thoughts but the side effects are starting to get to me. You indicate that you now have severe memory loss when under stress and do not know why.

Your comment provides your answer. As near as can be told from your statement, your memory is satisfactory when you are not stressed. Now there are some new generation anti-histamines available which produce relatively lesser risks to cognition and memory and are much safer for older people.
